Breast Milk Ice Cream: The Newest Trend in Dessert

Human milk Ice Cream- A Dairy horizon

By Rosie Colosi on Today

We have the scoop on a surprising new offering by Frida: breast milk-flavored ice cream. Yes, you read that right. You will soon be able to purchase a pint of ice cream that tastes like sweet, creamy breast milk.

Full Story

The Frida company — known for its baby, mom and fertility products, as well as its creative marketing — is now venturing into the food space (at least temporarily) with an ice cream flavor that is unlike anything you may have seen before … and it’s due in nine months.

Comments on the company’s Instagram announcement range from, “I love all of this and here for the chaos,” to, “I literally can not believe more than one person thought this was a good idea.”

This isn’t the first time breast milk ice cream has been made. A London ice cream shop created a flavor called “Baby Gaga” in 2011 using donated breast milk, but the sales stopped due to safety worries, according to the BBC.

The Frida company claims their ice cream “will perfectly represent the sweet, creamy, nutrient-rich goodness many people have wanted to try but have been too shy to ask about.”

Will this ice cream actually use breast milk? If yes, whose breast milk is it?

The company hasn’t shared many details, but they mentioned that the ice cream will have many of the “same nutrients” as breast milk, including “healthy fats (like Omega-3 for brain health), carbohydrates (energy-boosting lactose), important vitamins (iron, calcium, Vitamin B and D, and zinc), plus plenty of water for hydration.” People who want to buy it can sign up on the Frida website.

Frida is known for its attention-grabbing marketing. For example, their 2020 ad for postpartum care was not allowed to air during the Academy Awards because it was considered “too graphic.” Now, Frida is focusing on promoting its 2-in-1 Manual Breast Pump.

What do you think? Are you excited to try it?
