ALERT: Raila Odinga’s Bizarre Demands for State Positions — Unmasked as a Hoax!
IN SHORT: A shocking graphic claims that opposition leader Raila Odinga is demanding key government roles to endorse President William Ruto for the 2027 elections. However, Nation.Africa, the alleged source, has categorically rejected the false narrative.
On February 25, 2025, a provocative post on X set social media ablaze, alleging that Raila Odinga is insisting on a slew of powerful positions—including deputy president, national assembly speaker, a cabinet secretary slot, and 10 permanent secretary roles—in exchange for backing President Ruto in the upcoming elections.

The post claims that these demands were made during an alleged meeting at State House in Mombasa, Kenya’s bustling second city.
Supporting these sensational claims is a misleading graphic styled as an urgent news alert from Nation.Africa, timestamped February 23, 2025, that has now been disavowed by the organization.
In bright bold letters, the graphic declares: “Raila demands DP position, national assembly speaker, one more cabinet slot, and 10 PS slots to back Ruto.” But this is nothing but a concocted story!
As this deception continues to gain traction, the post has amassed over 7,400 views, underscoring the pressing need for vigilance against misinformation in today’s fast-moving media environment.
Political Shake-Up in Kenya: Odinga and Ruto in the Spotlight
In a dramatic twist of events in Kenya’s political landscape, Raila Odinga and William Ruto emerged as fierce rivals during the 2022 general election. Following Ruto’s hard-fought victory, the tension escalated with Odinga spearheading nationwide protests against the soaring cost of living and persistent electoral disputes.
The unrest culminated in dialogue talks, paving the way for Odinga to launch an ambitious campaign for the African Union Commission chairmanship. Surprisingly, Ruto extended his support for Odinga’s bid, signaling a potential thaw in their rivalry.
In a surprising turn, several of Odinga’s allies made the leap to join Ruto’s government in the wake of escalating youth-led protests against a contentious tax bill. Four former opposition members have been appointed to key cabinet positions. However, this shift was shadowed by a scandal as Ruto’s deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, faced impeachment, leading to Kithure Kindiki stepping in as the new deputy president. Gachagua, not content to fade into the background, has since embarked on a campaign to unseat Ruto in the upcoming elections.
Odinga’s pursuit of the AUC chair ultimately fell short, igniting speculation about his future political maneuvers and potential alliances. After his defeat in Ethiopia, he returned to Kenya, where he was welcomed by both Ruto and Kindiki in a striking show of unity in Mombasa. This unexpected reception has stirred discussions regarding possible political collaborations as the nation braces for the 2027 elections.
Amid these developments, recent claims circulating on X suggest that Odinga, in a speech in Mombasa, sought government positions in return for supporting Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027. However, the veracity of this claim remains under scrutiny as we investigate further.
Nation.Africa Refuses Claims of a Misleading Graphic
On February 23, the graphic in question did not make an appearance on Nation.Africa’s social media platforms nor was it featured on their official website.
In a decisive move, Nation.Africa disavowed the misleading graphic by circulating a blurred version with the bold statement “FAKE.”
The news organization urged the public to disregard the circulating graphic, stating: “Please be
advised that this card doing rounds on social media is fake.” They emphasized that any graphic not found on their official channels is not authentic content from their organization.
Moreover, claims suggesting that Nation.Africa reported on opposition leader Raila Odinga demanding specific government positions to support President Ruto in the upcoming 2027 elections were declared false.
